Coaching Update.

Another superb week with players concentrating on the ‘start of the point.’ Serve pressure, returning pressure plus consistency/placement of the first 3 g/strokes. Next week we’re playing mini matches and mostly points. Highlights this week have been Thursday u9’s, Thursday night adults and Friday morning ladies. Well done!

Week 5 all done with some more great work on volleys. We’ve also been mixing up some smashes to encourage movement forwards. Highlights have been Tuesday evening U9’s and Friday evening men’s advantage group. Well done to you all and next week we’re introducing some more serve/first groundstroke practice.

Club Update

With a bit of luck, a fair wind, and lots of crossed fingers & toes by the time you read this we’ll be indoors for the winter. At the time of writing we’re liaising with the company that assists with inflating our winter dome. Conditions need to be just right- certainly no high wind, which is often a challenge at the this time of year, and ideally bone dry courts to make the job easier. We’ve installed the dome every autumn since 2001 and it’s made a huge difference to the amount of tennis played in the ‘off season’. Sure, we were always outside in the years before the dome but it has enabled all of our winter league matches to continue uninterrupted plus the entire coaching program. We attract several players from other larger clubs during the winter and they get their best quality tennis with us for 5 months of the year. We even offer a dedicated ‘winter only’ membership to reflect how attractive it is for many players to be guaranteed dry, calm conditions in which to play their tennis.

Another huge bonus of having the indoor facility is that all our ‘showcase’ sessions can run all year round. We have 2 club mornings and 2 club evenings where everyone comes along and mixes in to play predominately doubles. These sessions are a great way to integrate into the club and to expand your circle of tennis friends. Lately we’ve seen a rise in court bookings from people who have met at club sessions and decided to organise another game during the week. The old saying that tennis can make you new friends is absolutely true!

If you’d like more information on coaching, either as a junior or an adult, get in contact with me and we can get you started- probably indoors for the winter!

See you on court.

What an excellent week of work on volleys. The adult groups have all been outstanding with their application & effort- Wednesday & Friday ladies, Friday men’s Advantage plus a good show for Tuesday cardio. Next week we’ll be continuing to attack the net and bury those smashes.

Changing technique is never easy so well done to you all for such a tremendous week of effort. We’ve been hitting topspin on f/hand & b/hand sides with correct grip change. Next week we’ll be tidying up the volleys so keep the racket quiet and the feet sharp!

Coaching Update.

Excellent work all week from squads. We’ve been through wind, rain and the end of summer sun to keep our feet moving around the ball and around the court. Highlight was probably a 4-0 defeat by the Saturday 1pm squad! Next week we’ll be back on consistency/topspin.

Coaching Update.

Coaching all sorted for our first week back and some super effort from everyone on ‘movement’. We’ve been away from ball, to the ball plus forwards & backwards. More of the same next week to get rid of the summer break rust!

Club Update.

At the time of writing, due to deadlines, I must give a preview of our Finals Day which was held on Sunday 10th September. 15 matches were due to be played ranging from the under 10’s event up to various senior singles, doubles and mixed. Also at the time of writing is a fairly mixed weather forecast- patchy rain with steady strong winds to really signal our transition from summer to autumn. With a bit of good fortune and many crossed fingers the day will have been a huge success with lots of new names on the trophies.

The patchy weather is only of concern as we’ve still got to wait a few weeks until our dome is installed for another winter of indoor activity. We’re aiming for early October again this year and, with all things going smoothly, should hit that target to ensure everyone can continue playing right through the rain, wind and frost.

Winter league starts very soon, also heralding the seasons change, and we have about a dozen pairs of hardy players set to represent the club against other teams from the Ipswich & District league. These pairs will be battling all through the winter to gain promotion by early Spring 2018.

The coaching program will also be in full swing once again by the time this plops onto your doormats with many players, both junior & adult, returning from a short summer break spent resting, playing matches or even starting with us at camps. There are many different sessions available to get you involved, even if you’ve never picked up a racket before, so get in touch with me and we’ll get you sorted.

See you on court!

No fun sessions today- ALL activity resumes from Monday 4th September. I hope you’re all fit and keen to get going again! We’ll be working more on movement around/to the ball for the first couple of weeks.

Coaching Update.

Coaching starts again soon so I hope we’re finding time to practise the ball placement on the serve? When the term starts we’ll be including more Spanish movement drills, particularly with the mini-players, to get you all moving!
